I've never used a potato masher before. I searched the internet for reviews and the website I found rated this as second best. #1 was an expensive stainless steel model but the review said it had a big square neck so you could light a potato without shaving off the sides! Well, it should be number 1 in my opinion. I used it once to steam rice for a fried potato chunks recipe. That works fine. Comes with 2 screens of different sizes. They are easy to change and are well secured. I'd say they're a little big (because you can fit the entire circumference of a potato in them), so it might be too much for small hands. Screens can be a bit of a hassle. But it is not difficult to use it in frying, only some adjustments / disassembly can cause difficulties. In general I am satisfied with them.
