Review on Discontinued Genuine HeroBeam® Bike Lights Double Set - Get It Now! by James Naylor

Cheap flashlights adapted to bike use

These are the kind of metal flashlights that you can get for $4-6 on Revain, along with a plastic adapter so you can mount on the handlebar. They are heavy, and the adapter make them stick way out forward of the handle bar, so shocks and vibrations while riding will make the light nose down, as reported by other users. In order to avoid that, you have to tighten the mounting screw to the extreme. This is not easy for most people: I have climber's fingers and it was hard, and in the process I stripped the nuts inserts. Thus, it is not realistic to consider the mount removable: it must be permanent. The flashlight however can be removed from the mount, but there again you will need to tighten it quite hard: the plastic screw nobs are too small. It is a flashlight, not a bike light, so the light beam is round and even: you will blind people coming the other way.A good bike light should have a flat and wide beam.Note that they are bright, no problem there, and thanks to the zoom you can search quite far.One of them had a lens that was shaking a bit, apparently due to manufacture tolerances. One way around the issue of the light nosing down might be to mount the adapter in reverse: doing that, the light is on top of the handled bar instead of sticking out.The rear lights are probably bright enough at night, but invisible during the day, so they will not act as a safety device during the day. One of them would not work more than 30 seconds while blinking. The blue side lights are OK at night, also invisible during the day, but that was expected. They can not be considered safety devices during the day.
