no way to start the timer

I liked all the small Innogear essential oil diffusers but I do not recommend this humidifier and now I have doubts about the large devices they sell. This is the first time I've bought a humidifier that didn't have a built in timer or humidity sensor of any kind and couldn't be set to an outlet timer. I would expect that if I bought a cheap small humidifier for $15 but not $30 and up, only 1 gallon. If it loses power due to the timer, you have to press the button again and press it several times to return to the desired power each time it turns off. This can easily go from an overly dry room to a very humid, unattended room no matter what setting you use. This limits its use to staying awake and remembering to turn it on and off as needed, or constantly working in a very dry environment where you need to refill it frequently. An environment that is too humid can increase breathing problems, just as humidity that is too dry promotes mold growth. The ideal humidity level for air quality and respiratory conditions is actually a fairly narrow range, and a humidifier must be designed to easily and accurately control indoor humidity levels. It doesn't have to be something you need to keep a constant eye on to maintain ideal air quality. When you have enough dry air that you have to run it all the time, you face the frustration of refilling it every day. First you need to keep an eye on the loose top and find a place to install a dripping piece of plastic. Then pick up the tank that's definitely still dripping, because it locks before it's completely empty. Then try for 10-20 minutes to unscrew the lid. We once searched the toolbox for a wrench that we could use without damaging it, but nothing helped with a very wide lid with tiny protrusions. I don't know if it creates a vacuum when it drains water or what happens to tighten the lid because I never screw things that tight. Finally, you put everything back together and use your aching hands to wipe up any water that has dripped or spilled everywhere. If you have arthritis or other issues that affect hand strength, you probably won't be able to refill this humidifier. Added to this is the problem that this humidifier cannot be safely and easily moved until it is empty. The engine breather is located in the base with the water tank. Tilt it too far the wrong way and it will never work again. This is a common design for very small devices typically used for essential oils rather than full blown humidifiers. With that in mind, it's not too much of a problem with small units because they have so little liquid. They don't take long to just dry, they're easily emptied, and often if you want to risk moving them when they're full you can successfully hold them flat because they're so small. It is not easy to empty the bottom tank of this humidifier or prevent it from spilling when moving. All previous other brand small humidifiers I've bought were easier to fill, easier to handle and move even when full, spilled less water when refilling or moving, and was able to control both output and duration even when full they were using a separately available timer. This device should be around $10-$15 cheaper compared to similarly sized humidifiers due to the lack of features.
