This is a very good set of anvils. They're expensive because they're also certified, and you can rest assured that you're getting reliable readings when you use them. For those who only use these tools for hobby purposes, yes, there are likely cheaper products out there that are better suited for less serious work. As a side note, I didn't actually buy the anvil set, I bought the anvil set along with the Mitutoyo 0-1" thread microphone, but it's exactly the same set of 6 from 3.5 to 80 TPI, you simply get more bang for your buck this way.
