A good product, more pros than cons.

When buying, I made a choice between d5100 and d3100. I decided that the advantages that are presented in the d5100 are insignificant for me and it does not make sense to overpay money for them. I used to use a regular digital soap box. I was pleasantly surprised by the possibilities of the RAW format. If you made a little mistake with the shooting parameters (overexposure or vice versa underexposure), then you can correct it in a graphical editor. Also, there is no need to think about white balance. I shoot almost always in manual mode. The ISO sensitivity range rarely has to be set to high values \u200b\u200b(1600-3200). The need for such an ISO appears only in some cases when you need to set a fast shutter speed in low light. I have been using the camera for about two months. I can say that almost all expectations from the camera were justified. The only thing that upset me a little was the lack of the ability to do interval shooting. By interval shooting, I mean the ability to take a frame after a given period of time. (Time lapse) For example, I set 100 frames and an interval of 30 seconds. The camera must take 100 frames every 30 seconds. To do this, you need to buy a remote control. That interval shooting, which is written in the characteristics of the camera, simply means a frame in 2 or 10 seconds. The lens included in the kit is not the best quality, but for its price you should not demand too much from it. Such a lens is well suited for acquaintance with photographic equipment. And then, you yourself will decide which one you need and whether you need another at all. I think that for the money that is required for the camera, a good choice for a novice photographer.

Pros
  • For a SLR camera, compact size and weight low price
Cons
  • No time-lapse capability
