Review on πŸ”‹ 35 Amp Progressive Dynamics PD4635V Convertor/Charger with Charge Wizard - Inteli-Power 4600 Series by Jeff Drollinger

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A big improvement over the original 1992 system, some concerns about loading speed.

Firstly it comes with a PCB which is a power distribution board. I installed this device about 4 or 5 months ago. . I used this to upgrade the charger in our 1992 Ford Econoline van with Turtle Top RV conversion. The exchange with the old block was correct. That was excellent. Directions "mostly" completed. There are several different outlets on the power distribution board that are slightly "staggered" from the others. I had to search the web a bit to verify what/why this is. A little more detail on the circuit board in the instructions would be helpful. (Since the device isn't in front of me, I don't want to say what it was for because I don't want to make a memory error. Sorry.) The device is VERY quiet. That was very important to me. In fact, the fan only turned on a couple of times, and then only when it was hot outside, the battery was very low, and we had other loads on the system. Even when the fan is on, you have to be silent to hear it. I love this feature. The device is VERY efficient, which is also very important to me. The original block generated a lot of excess heat. I mainly use my van in the summer and additional heat is not desirable. The main reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the charge cycle. When plugged in for the first time, the device enters fast charge mode during battery evaluation. It's just wonderful. What I don't like is that it stays on fast charge much longer than I like. Even when the battery is fully charged, it stays in fast charge mode for more than half an hour and sometimes more than an hour. I'd rather have my battery do it in just a few minutes. I have no evidence that this is an issue, but it's certainly frustrating to wonder when it will start throttling again. Conclusion: I would buy this device again and would happily recommend it. I'll find out what happened to the battery life in a few years and "recharge" is something I'm thinking about. For now I just trust the designers and I'm happy with this purchase.

Cons
  • I don't really like it everything is fine
