We used to have one of those white rubber tipped extensions that we use on our windows as patio door blocks. Replaced with this - wrought iron is nice and strong, although not as easy to remove and reattach as extensions. If you are considering hosting this bar and leaving, I would happily recommend it. If you take it off and replace it often - perhaps you use your patio door a lot - then you might want to stick with white extensions. We rarely open patio doors so we are happy with this locking bar. One caveat: it's cast iron, so probably not suitable as a window unit. Falling down can cause damage!
