In the past I've used everything from "professional" putty to cast iron mantels for my smokers, all with different "I's". Skip everything and just buy it. I used an oscillating sander with a 100 grit attachment to remove the old, rotten gasket and glue, rubbed the edge with a tack cloth and cemented the material in place. Note: Be *prepared* to lay this material inch by inch and *carefully*. The adhesive on this product means BUSINESS! This made a GREAT print on the main chamber of my offset smoker. I don't think I've ever been so impressed with a smoker's pad, even for a piece I paid three times as much for, which gave me a mediocre seal. I'm pretty sure I'll never buy anything but a FireBlack for work, period.
