Review on 🐴 Optimized EasyCare Easyboot Rx Hoof Boot for Therapeutic Support by Fred Griffin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Really usable but not very durable

My horse has fallen badly (2016) with twisted coffin bones in both front hooves. We bought these boots to offer a little more cushioning. We had to throw away the pillow insert (it's junk) and 3D print some inserts instead. If he's having a bad day, there's some improvement - relief is often immediately visible. We have 3 pairs (bought over time) that we change since he wears them for weeks and they get wet. What really annoys me about these boots is the cheap outer material. While he was recovering, we wore EZ boots from the same manufacturer. He's been wearing them every day for at least a year and the outer material has held up (instead the hem has come loose, but they shouldn't be worn that long). But these boots. it is a three-layer construction. An outer lining, a foam lining, then another lining that looks more like women's nylon stockings. My horse gets bored/annoyed and chews through the balaclavas - so we have 3 pairs. He could never chew on EZ boots. This material is significantly different and more durable. We still use them - they don't flop (yet). Since we're going to be using tape to attach the boots (we don't trust velcro - that's a pretty good thing, but since we're letting it graze we take extra precautions), we try to tape the holes. We're trying to figure out a way to patch holes this way. but neither of us sews, and that should be a super duty. Pros: Really brings relief. The velcro is strong, probably good for a stalled horse. The lower rubber is very well made and offers very good cushioning. Holds up well on snow/ice. Boots don't collect snow (yes, he wore them all winter - in South Dakota) CONS: The upper doesn't really wear out, especially when a horse walks on it. Had I not had experience with EZ boot material I would not have realized how poor the upper is and how it could be improved.
