I had a few questions about this product and couldn't find much about it online, but I did find the company's website and a phone number to call. The number went straight to a live person who answered my questions. He said this moss was colored with a mild, non-toxic food coloring. He said that if it's very wet it's possible it will stain things, and this can be avoided by rinsing it off a bit to remove excess paint. He also said the moss did not come from the Galapagos Islands due to very strict export laws there. Aside from that, I've used it in my wet-skin bioactive gecko enclosure. I have a bowl of damp peat with the skin on top as wet skin, I soak it in filtered tap water and place it on top of the peat. Looks very attractive, natural and soft. The bag is big and the price is great. I'm giving one star because I want some of the excess paint to be removed before packaging so people don't have issues with dyeing, but overall I'm very happy with it.
