Favorite Reptile Moss

I've searched and tried various things and this is the only moss I've found that's a nice green color (it doesn't bleed!) and is easy to work with. Always use this for my round pythons, around the aquarium and a little nest in their skin. They seem to enjoy burrowing under to sleep.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Empty

Not recommended Best in a terrarium Litter, sand and substrate

This moss is terrible for wet leopard gecko fur! It's very green and colors everything, including the gecko itself! Wet skin turns green and my leopard gecko is now green! One can only hope that the next barn has a green patch! Terrible stuff! Absolutely not recommended for wet leopard gecko skins! I will use the rest of the plant wrap!

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Something different

Not safe for reptiles or other animals!

This is definitely green and when I put it in my aquarium it colored my coconut house! It is not safe for reptiles or other animals! Dry natural peat moss is usually brown or dark green in color. It's light green and I tried to disagree with him until he painted the coconut house. Should not be marked as reptile safe if something painted is unsafe!

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons

Poor bedding experience

This moss arrived in a plastic bag with no padding or protection. The result is a large amount of decomposed moss, which is essentially mud; totally useless. A couple of huge chunks of what looks like dead roots and bark take up about a third of the package I received; a useless filler that I cannot use. Didn't realize I had all that "filler" in my bag until I started using moss as it was conveniently tucked in the middle with good moss. I do NOT recommend it and will not buy it again.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

It's not peat moss

Given the high reviews and low price, I really wanted to ignore the bad reviews. I have tried using this product to grow live peat moss but it is dead. This is claimed to be some type of canned moss but it is clearly not peat moss. Those who suspect that this moss was colored green may well be right. I ended up using this "moss" for my plants that need moisture. The product does not stay wet which is a big problem as that was the purpose of the purchase. Oh and it's killing my plants, yay. save

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • There are problems

I had a few questions about this product and couldn't find much about it online, but I did find the company's website and a phone number to call. The number went straight to a live person who answered my questions. He said this moss was colored with a mild, non-toxic food coloring. He said that if it's very wet it's possible it will stain things, and this can be avoided by rinsing it off a bit to remove excess paint. He also said the moss did not come from the Galapagos Islands due to very…

Fake reviews? suitable for reptiles and amphibians

Edit (09/28/21): It has been in cages for months, replaced it with real spagum moss last week, never stained or harmed my geckos. I also switched to 100% bioactive and no more plastic skin, it was temporary until I got my bark pieces. First off this is NOT spagnum moss although it is moss but I have seen reviews saying it is colored. So when I received it, before my geckos were delivered, I took some moss out of the packaging and soaked it in a pitcher of water. I left it for several hours, it…

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Has flaws

humidity and heat it's so soft and fragrant it has a bit of a musty smell but that's how wet moss should smell, our leopard geckos love it to lie in this moss when they are about to molt, and they spend days in it before and after molting. It's much softer and more comfortable on her skin than other moss we've used. The material we used before is a famous brand product so we didn't buy cheap moss from other brands but this material gets so soft when wet and even when it dries it's not hard and…

Quality is lower than similar brands

I ordered this to reduce the humidity in my snakes' enclosures. We prefer peat moss and use it in combination with Repti-Bark to give them a very natural habitat. It usually gives really great results (we've been using this combo for a number of years) but this moss doesn't seem to match the results we usually get. The moss itself seems to have a hard time staying wet while most of the mosses we have used retain their properties. Humidity is much longer. I don't know if it was just this batch…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
