Great for dogs with collapsing trachea

My dog is a 10-11 lb chihuahua mix and the medium size fits her very well. She has a collapsing trachea and I never attach her leash to her collar because it results in her choking and coughing and potentially can damage her trachea. The crisscross design of this Gooby harness does help take the pressure off of the center of the neck and reduces her choking and coughing when she pulls on the leash. It doesn't eliminate the coughing completely but it does reduce it by a lot when compared to regular harnesses and especially when compared with using collars to attach the leash to.I do wish the harness didn't say "GOOBY" on the top in bold lettering because it makes it look like my dog's name is Gooby. And I also wish the strap part that goes around the chest was more anchored somehow to the top of the harness because it does tend to shift and ride forwards. I keep having to adjust its position by pulling it back a bit. I almost deducted a star but decided it wasn't enough of a problem to warrant that. If I could give the harness 4.5 stars, I would. The harness is strong and well made and is comfortable for my dog to wear. It looks nice and I trust it and feel safe walking her in it. And she seems happier because she is coughing/choking less. I would pretty highly recommend this harness, especially if you have a dog with a trachea issue.UPDATE: I've been using this harness on my dog for 9 months and it is still going strong, no problems.

Pros
  • The harness is made with a sturdy D-ring for reliable leash attachment
Cons
  • May be too bulky or heavy for some dogs
