The first two speeds, both continuous, are great for the lower back. The massager is small enough that I can hold it and reach my lower back while still sitting in my chair and also easily reach my lower back when I stand up to stretch. While I understand that most people who order a personal massager use it for other reasons, I recommend this little massager to anyone who sits at a desk all day as it does wonders for tight lower back muscles.
