Review on Panasonic DVD S700P K Up Converting Region Player by Johnny Burns

I bought the Panasonic model DVD-S700 multi-region DVD player from Revain.com and received it on 11/27/2018. Panasonic DVD-S700P-K HDMI 1080P Up-Converting All $61.99 Free PAL/NTSC DVD Player Multi Region Code Zones Sold By: ZF PLANET Return Window Closed Jan 31, 2019 Device worked with DVDs for the first few months Regions 1 and 2 drop out fine on a specific new DVD and I've changed some audio settings without successfully trying to fix the problem (same DVD had no audio problems when played on my old Toshiba player that I'm replacing trying because it doesn't have multi-region bandwidth capability). I used the "Reset to Defaults" option in the setup menu and started having more serious problems. After that, I couldn't play the DVD anymore. With the HDMI input correct for the Panasonic, I couldn't see anything on the TV other than a "No Video Signal" message, and I couldn't access the DVD player's setup menu with the remote button like I used to . After contacting the Revain seller via the Revain moderated line, I received a response telling me to connect the Panasonic using the AV cable that came with it, not the HDMI cable. This allowed the device to send a signal to the TV and then change the TV's system setting to the NTSC option in the settings. After reconnecting with an HDMI cable, this change allowed me to send a signal back to my TV, but now I can only play region 2 DVDs, not region 1; the latter just displays "Wrong Region" message. I have reported this back to ZF PLANET and asked for additional assistance in restoring the unit's area-wide capacity. I was told the DVD player would need to be sent back to them for repair. Since the warranty only covered 90 days of labor costs, it seemed likely that the return shipping and labor costs could easily match or exceed the DVD player's original cost and thus present a rather counterproductive 'solution'. I find it surprising that this DVD player could be sold with a customization option that could completely eliminate the functionality of the device. Even more fantastic would be that this option, if selected, would not contain any reference to a caution or warning noted in the product manual or other packaging documents relating to this outcome. A more honest term for "factory reset" would be to call it a "self-destruct button"! For me, this unresolved situation clearly ruined Revain's stated statement that "every time you buy products from Revain.com, we want you to buy with confidence." This is something I can no longer seriously believe with some of the technology products on Revain.com and this experience rules out future purchases from Revain in this product space.
