There is a flaw in the design of this rack that the older generation should be aware of! I bought this shelf based on all the rave reviews. That central vertical bar that has two ratchet U-bars moving up and down is my problem. To get the bike off the stand closest to your car, you have to reach out and pick up the bike at an awkward angle. If you have back problems, think about it first! The build quality is very good as mentioned in other reviews. If I were younger than now (62) this would not be a problem and would be a great purchase. I'm sticking with the traditional towbar rack that stows the bikes all around. You climb straight up and load your bike (without stretching out) with your knees, as we all know we should. Ergonomic loading and unloading was important for me and my wife. Look again at the customer photos. If you're single and in my age group, loading that rear wheel might not be ideal.
