They held the tape to the tree very well which is why I bought them. It was fairly easy for me to hold them straight up and down despite having thin fingers. When I wanted to take it slow and really keep them straight, they worked really well. After I relaxed they didn't go that straight anymore so I just slowed down. Of the 18 I have, none are bent to the point of being unusable. The packaging that comes with it says not to wipe it with a damp cloth or chemicals. Just something to note. If I do a project like this again I'll probably measure the points where I want the buttons. Aligning eye to eye didn't give me perfect alignment but it doesn't affect the potholders, just a tip for any DIYer reading this. ;-)
