I have four children aged 1 to 7 years. I definitely love 100% outdoor toys. So those big Connect 4 games that say you can go outside were on my radar. But I refrained from buying it because there were other brands I don't trust, then there was ECR4kids which seems to have enough baby stuff that it's some sort of brand but reviews for ECR4kids say the plastic part is down randomly jumps out and ejects game pieces. So I skipped it, but then I was happy to get the Revain Basics version when it came out because Revain Basics is good in general and I hope to avoid a bug in the ECR4kids versions. I have the 44 inch wide Revain Basics to hook up 4 huge outdoor games because it's outdoors. It's not in the house. Can also get big. I was planning to leave it all along. (More on that later.) So far, so good. The large set was fairly easy to set up. It folds and unfolds and comes with a giant canvas carry bag. You have to disassemble it to put it in a carrying case, and to be honest, when it's "stored," it's huge and weighs 37 pounds, so it's not easy to carry around. But if necessary, you can put it on the back seat of the car. Then the plastic pieces on the bottom that hold the game pieces in place during play seem sturdy enough. This was the design deficient part of a lot of the reviews I read about competing brands. I've only had these installed for a few days so they may wear out over time but for now they work all the time and don't drop the pieces until you pull the lever to release the play pieces. .One problem with this: The product description says that it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. I think that could mean that you can set it up to play outside, but don't leave it outside all the time. It's designed to let some water in when it rains. Each of the donut-shaped round figures has a small hole on the edge through which water can penetrate if the figure is held under water. And if left outside in the rain some water will almost certainly get in. Then it gets moldy. And then the white pieces will be covered in places where you can see the mold. (I have a style with a gray and red border and black and white detailing.) I think it's okay to keep the border out and keep it coordinated, but I might plan to move the tokens in and create a place of your own. Keep them where they won't get caught in the rain. Or at least choose a color with dark or light counters for both sides and avoid white or yellow counters so water isn't visible when it gets in and molds. BIG PROBLEM: It's mid-August now which means I've had this big giant Connex 4 for about 5 weeks. I bought this specifically for a large outdoor game that won't clutter my house. Well, in less than 5 weeks on the road, the red plastic on the board has visibly faded. You know how some plastics are processed in such a way that they are UV-resistant and can be stored outdoors for years. Okay, I'm pretty sure this toy isn't like that. I think when they say it's fine for outdoor use they mean you can install it temporarily for some outdoor play, but then you'll have to take it apart and store it indoors. What a pity. I wanted to keep it next to the patio forever and use it for a few years. But I think that plastic ages quickly and becomes very brittle from sunlight. I will keep updating but if you want to install it outdoors long term e.g. B. for a home kindergarten or a garden toy for children, I highly doubt that it will last long. And because of this design flaw, I'm now a little concerned that the plastic isn't UV resistant and will become brittle with exposure to the elements. I plan to update the review but when the plastic weathers badly it usually happens after a few years and then it becomes brittle so any update will be slow. By the way, the kids seem to like to play. I thought they would be most interested in filling it up with pieces and then pulling the bottom out of the way to drop all the pieces, but they actually seem to enjoy playing. The eldest played Connect 4 after school and even a 3 year old girl seemed able to grasp the concept (although she wanted to put some chips on her move to get 4 in a row and win, so maybe a bit young for that really nail turn). I think this is a normal game for younger students. When I bought them last year there were many different brands of big huge games but they were either full shippers of the brands or they had a design flaw with the part at the bottom that holds the game elements in place while playing. get off the weight. It's Revain Basics where the part at the bottom stays in place nicely, so it seems like a good option for a huge 4 joint. One possible problem is that the small holes in the hollow plastic parts cause water to flow, if you store it outside when it rains it will get into every play piece, meaning there will be nasty drips of water later when playing, meaning mold can grow in parts where you can see stains through the plastic. So it really isn't very good for fully exposed outdoor use. However, I suspect that this problem will also occur with other sets. I really think this is a good option for a huge 4 external connector kit compared to the options available.
