Review on Effortlessly Stylish Oil Rubbed Bronze Toilet Paper Holder - Amazon Basics AB-BR838-OR by Jamie Miller

Much harder than it should be

I'm not the type to write bad product reviews (this may actually be my first time), but I think it deserves it. I bought 2 toilet roll holders because they looked the same but were half the price of the cheapest option at Home Depot and Lowe's and in this situation I really got what I paid for. They look good but installation was a job. It comes with a template (just like the others I've put in before) so we drilled through our cabinet - to make sure it was level before we started - and it was fine until we actually tried have to attach the side panel to the bracket which we just drilled in place. The part that attaches the screw to hold it in place is too far away to actually grab the included bracket. It took a lot of trial and error to figure this out, but we had to remove the clip and put a piece of old crayon underneath so it stuck out of the cabinet far enough to hold it securely. We had to do this on ALL parts in every setup. Now I'm guessing that if you were to mount the mount on a wall you would have to use wall anchors, as the anchor pushes the mount far enough away from the wall for it to attach properly, it would be fine, but the product clearly says so that you can mount it on the cabinet, eliminating the need for anchors and putting you in a difficult position. When we finally installed this thing and added the toilet paper, it clearly wasn't level, even though we checked the pattern before installing it. The clasps on the inside are uneven, making the whole thing uneven. I was disappointed with the installation but once they were in place they at least looked good and were cheap so I just left it at that. It's been about a month now and one of the spring bars that hold the toilet paper has lost its spring entirely which really offends the injury after chafing at their installation. Seriously, just a month and it's already broken. So, I think I really got what I paid for with this product. Yes, it's cheaper, but if you're mounting to a cabinet like we are, you're going to have a headache installing it, and you'll need to buy a new spring bar soon after. To be honest, I'm saddest about the spring bar because it's shiny chrome and looks so much better than the cheap white plastic bars you can buy as replacements. So it's not a full wash, but I want to know what I'm getting myself into before I buy it. Next time I'll buy from Home Depot.
