I like the look and feel of canvas and I've found that it just improves over time. I've used a canvas messenger bag for years so I was glad to get this backpack and give it a try. For me it is just the right size for everyday use. I wasn't looking for a large travel pack, just something I can take to work that will hold everything I need. The canvas is thick enough to be sturdy, without being too stiff and unwieldy. I could have used a little more padding in the shoulder straps, but I'm not planning on carrying a lot of heavy items, so it should be OK.This pack has the typical number and position of compartments. The large main compartment has two sleeves - one for laptops or large tablets, and a smaller one that looks perfect for a kindle or smaller tablets. There is no padding on the bottom of the pack so be careful to not drop it if you have a laptop inside. There is a small zippered compartment at the top and two pouches below that could hold pens and smaller items. On the back there is another deep pouch with a snap closure that is covered by the main compartment flap and small compartment below the lap with a vertical zipper. That's where I like to store my wallet and keys for quick access so I wish the zipper was horizontal so I wouldn't worry about losing them if I forget to zip it back up. There are two compartments on each side that are a bit on the narrow side, but can still hold smaller items that require quick access.My only complaint is the widespread use of snaps instead of zippers for every compartment, except the two I mentioned that have zippers. I just find them a bit unwieldy compared to zippers, particularly if you are holding the backpack in one hand and trying to open a compartment with the other. I think they are more esthetically pleasing, but not as practical.That's the only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars, but overall I'm pleased with this high quality canvas backpack.
