Review on De'Longhi 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dehumidifier & Fan - Cool Surround Remote, Built-in Temperature Control Sensor & Quiet Mode, White - XLarge Room Size, Pinguino 8600 BTU (DOE), 700 sq ft by Michelle Miller

This De'Longhi Pinguino is my first experience with this type of AC unit and I have to say I love its portability. This review is getting quite long, so I've added this short list beforehand: PROS: Ultra-portable Installs and removes in minutes Cools superbly Fairly quiet Remote control and remote temp sensor Complete in the box - ready to use CONS: Condensate pan Drain plug very low to the floor But, like me Mention later, the unit manages condensation well during operation, so I only see the need to drain it manually if I intend to store the unit. Now a long recap :) I have central air conditioning in my house and it works fine, but I have 2 guest bedrooms that are on the west side of the house, which is always a few degrees warmer than the rest of the house until midday sun, like that that it can get slightly warm in these rooms for sleeping. One solution is to cool the whole house a few degrees colder than we want in the bedrooms and leave the guest room door open with the fan running, but then I cool the whole house and the guests lose any privacy they might have could have. . Portable AC unit Longhi Pinguino. It's ultra-portable thanks to the wheels on the bottom, making it as easy to move as a large suitcase. Installation takes literally 10 minutes and requires only an accessible window and a 120V plug. Open the window, insert the exhaust panel into the window, close the window on the panel, attach the other end of the exhaust hose the air conditioner and plug it in. That's all, and I've been to cool races. These rooms are small for this device, so it cools them down very quickly and keeps them comfortable throughout the night. I have a window unit that I could use in these rooms but it's a lot more difficult to install and I have to take the screen out and once it's in place I don't want to move it. Not to mention the unsightly box poking out the window, the De'Longhi device works without removing the screen and can be installed or removed and moved in just minutes and without heavy lifting. A truly ultra-portable solution. Another use I envision for this device is during hurricane season. Our master bedroom is a good size for this unit and the unit is powered by our portable generator which is great for longer power outages when it's 95 degrees and 80% humidity outside. I like the portability factor of this block, it makes it much more useful than a window block. It can be used for an RV or even a tent with minimal setup. I left it on overnight just to see how well it cools and it did a great job in combination with the ceiling fan to keep the room cool and comfortable. The remote control is another nice feature. Of course it allows me to control the unit remotely but more importantly it acts as a remote thermostat and humidity monitor so if I have the unit across the room I can take the remote with me and the unit will know what the temperature is there , where I am and works accordingly. I love that De'Longhi has everything I need to start chilling. I've seen other handhelds that say the window kit needs to be purchased separately. De'Longhi included it with the kit, as well as a dust cover for the unit and an accessory pouch that goes well with the hose and window kit. Storage. The only thing I didn't like was that the condensate pan drain plug is only an inch from the floor. Too low to put a container underneath to drain the water from the pan without lifting the unit. It's not a problem for me, but this thing weighs 80 pounds and I could see a lot of people can't lift it off the counter. Thankfully, that's a lot less of a problem than I thought. De'Longhi appears to be venting the pan to the outside through a hot air vent, and this seems to work very efficiently. I used the unit for 2 nights and a day in one of the bedrooms and then placed it on the counter, drained the sump and got just a couple ounces of water from the sump (seen in one of my photos). I thought it would be more like my dehumidifiers which need to be emptied frequently, but it seems to manage the water in the sump itself and I don't have to fiddle with it unless I'm draining the unit to keep for storage . a long time. As for the silence, it's pretty quiet. It's about as loud as a box fan, and the compressor noise is a low, steady hum that doesn't bother me at all, just good white noise to me. All in all, this De'Longhi Pinguino AC unit is "definitely recommended" by me for its portability, ease of setup and disassembly, and remote thermostat function, which is one of my favorite things.
