Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ IGERESS Formaldehyde Pollution Detector: Tracking and Recording Air Quality by Byron Forman

They only measure "relative " concentrations of impurities, not absolute concentrations.

My name needs an explanation. I've tried several of these home "air quality" meters designed to measure pollutants, but they all share a common weakness. They all require a "calibration" which basically consists of taking the device outside and performing a special step to reset it. That's the problem. They all seem extremely sensitive to the conditions "outside" to determine what they will read inside. Not only air quality, but also temperature and humidity seem to play a role in how the readings in your home are affected. For example, I once calibrated the instrument early in the morning when it was cold and dry outside, and when I brought it inside and the readings settled down, they were significantly different than when it was calibrated the night before when it was warm. and wet. I assume my outside air has negligible levels of formaldehyde and TOC, but of course that affects that too. If you have polluted the outside air, calibrating the meter will only give you relative readings, not absolute readings. Also, the differences can be so glaring that one wonders how accurate they are. They do have some utility as they react to contamination and by changing readings show which areas are "more dirty" than others, but this is far from believing their readings are accurate. fairly consistent, and I joke that it's accurate if not exact (which means it reads to 3 decimal places, but the reading probably doesn't mean anything because if you recalibrate it, you might get a completely different reading immediately afterwards , even if it was calibrated in just a few hours the fact is I calibrated it this morning and saw TVOC readings near the top of the scale (9.999 mg/m3) which I didn't know could be correct so i took it outside and recalibrated and now it reads 0.590 almost 1/20th of what it showed before the recalibration so which reading is accurate probably none of them but if the counter goes up that means likely pollution is greater than it used to be.Don't trust the numbers. Also, certain chemicals used in use can fool both gauges.Fire ore EU liquid blocks the TV meter OC but has no real impact on HCHO levels, while alcohol (both rubbing and drinking) increases HCHO and TVOC levels. Who knows how many other commonly used chemicals and cleaning supplies will be moving the counter. Pure HCHO is not really measured with it. My advice: if you're seriously concerned about indoor air quality, you'd better go to an expert and have your air samples tested in a real lab. None of the counters are really helpful in telling you whether your home is infected or not. However, they are fun to play with.
