My 13 year old dog was recently diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. Commercially made prescription dog food recommended by my vet contains corn, cornmeal gluten, or cornmeal in the first few ingredients. My other alternative was to prepare my own food and add a vitamin powder supplement (BalanceIT Canine K.). Although the BalanceIT website lists the cup equivalents of the ingredients, it was difficult to be really accurate. Some of these measurements were even in tablespoons or teaspoons! I decided to look for a scale that measures not only ounces but also grams since most recipes are given in grams. I was so happy to find this scale at a very affordable price. It doesn't take up much space on my desk and the red color is nice. Now I can just put the plastic bowl on the scale, tare the weight, and weigh each ingredient until I have the right amount. If I cook for enough days, I can weigh each bowl to make sure I'm distributing the food properly. A scale really cuts down on the time it takes to make sure ingredients are in the right proportion.
