Review on Tekpower TP4000ZC Auto Ranging DMM with USB Interface - PC Based Digital Multimeter, Similar to MS8220R, Computer Compatible by Jesse Jewett

Good inexpensive DMM with computer interface

I've looked at a number of inexpensive auto range DMMs but settled on this one because it has a computer interface. True, this is the old RS232 serial port, and most modern computers no longer have a serial port. Luckily I already had the Radio Shack RS232 to USB adapter cable on hand. I plugged it in and it works great with the software that came with it. The software includes both analogue and digital meter displays. It also allows for data logging and charts, including the ability to print them or export them to readable Excel files. The meter requires two AA cells, which are included. It also comes with a temperature sensor that connects to the meter. The meter reading is in Celsius only, but the computer interface software allows it to be converted and displayed in Fahrenheit. The high end of the analog Fahrenheit scale on a computer display is around 900 degrees. The probe is either made of stainless steel or with a shiny surface. It is very thin and 3.5 to 4 inches long. You can use it as a quick-read meat thermometer and cook up the perfect turkey or spare ribs. very happy with this purchase. Electronic rework, troubleshooting and experimentation aside, this meter is perfect for things like checking actual power output from rechargeable batteries as you can record and graph a log of discharge voltage or current over time. On the other hand, there is no backlight or backlight for the meter display, so not very suitable for using under a car or other dark place. I still give 5 stars.
