I got this to organize all the miscellaneous stuff that seems to clutter our kitchen table all the time, and seeing it live and in person I think it will work well for that. It's nicely made out of real wood, not fiber board, but out of a very dry, lightweight fir and with only a sort of distressed looking stain, no sealer.I'm a little worried about the wood continuing to dry out and cracking, but more than that I'm concerned that if it gets food spills or splashes, grease, or even dust on it they will be almost impossible to get off. Accordingly, I'm going to get some polyurethane varnish in a clear satin finish and seal the wood. With all the corners, nooks, and crannies, an aerosol spray varnish is the only way to go, so next trip into town I'll pick up a couple cans.Looking forward to getting this fixed up and ready to go - it looks nice (and the varnish will make the wood grain look even better) and it should be very useful.
