Great tool for working with old drives

My friend has an old HP laptop with a corrupted BIOS and an old 2.5" IDE drive. She wanted pictures from an old laptop, but with a corrupted BIOS, the machine stopped working. downloaded and she (actually both of us) thought the pictures were long gone. Rather than wasting time flashing an old BIOS, I saw this adapter and thought I'd try using it to copy files off my laptop. old IDE hard drive. In short, it was fantastic. I was able to read the old IDE hard drive and after checking for viruses (there were a lot of them) I found their images and was able to copy them to a big USB stick without breaking a sweat! Now I'm your digital hero! Important step, turn off indexing in the drive properties window once it appears in Windows Explorer. Otherwise, Windows will spend a lot of time indexing files on that drive and with unknown viruses, the indexing process can increase the risk of infecting your own computer. I do that immediately when I connect an external hard drive. The Maker User Guide states that three discs can be used simultaneously. SATA and two IDE pin configurations (2.5 and 3.5). I dug through a few old drives and tried it and in fact all three drives are mounted and Win10 gave them a free drive letter. I could work with them as if they were built into the car. So I spent several hours going through those old drives and finding files I thought I had lost forever. The adapter worked flawlessly, and even with three hard drives spinning, the included outlet seemed to provide ample power. I saw in another review or question that it doesn't work with USB 2.0 or 1.1. I tried it on a regular USB 2.0 port on one of my computers and it worked fine. As of this writing, I am using it to clone an old 3.5" SATA hard drive connected to this adapter to a new SSD on another. I had the SATA to USB adapter. Works perfectly. This is a very handy tool for those who play with their old hardware or work on other people's computers. I like it.
