Bought two, both failed

Bought two of these for my new NAS, plugged them in and the NAS said no drive installed. Had to buy a 3.5" SATA to USB adapter to find out what's wrong with my PC. The PC sees the drive but asks me to initialize it. However, when I tried this, I got an "Invalid Function" error. I've spent a lot of time on the internet trying to find out what's going on and after too much time I've come to the conclusion that they were roasted on arrival. BOTH! Update: Bought 2 more drives from another brand and they work great. malfunction.
