The backlight is always on, pressing the button turns off the device. After that, the colors of my trailer: White: were not used. Green: to the positive wire on the device. Red to the negative terminal of the device. Yellow and black to the power supply. Totally wrong from my standard understanding of cable colors. But like I said, I think my suspension was misadjusted. I looked at the photos of the seat belts here and found that they don't match mine. Hope this helps someone in the same boat. At least I was able to get it to work when I forgot the colors.
