I've been using it for a few months now. I'm still learning. While it's not ICOM or YEASU, it's still a quality radio and has a lot going for it. There is a learning curve to learning how to use this. The quality seems to be very good. The body is superior to anything you'll find on the UV-5R. speaker output. Easy setup with CHIRP. Like most rubber ducky antennas, this one sucks. If you have a second one, use that one or buy a better antenna for better performance. What's the best? Under $50 if it breaks or falls in the lake it's not a huge loss. You just buy another. Great backup radio.
