Watercolors are easy to activate, but it's important not to use too much water. If the application is fairly concentrated, the watercolor paint is quite opaque. I recommend pouring some water and leaving the watercolors in the water for a few minutes. They don't work best alone. This may be my personal opinion, but as accents, they work better than regular watercolors. I would like to point out that they have a slight chemical smell, but it's not very strong. I've attached some patterns I made for each color. The light gold looked very silvery with a yellow undertone. The copper seemed a little less smooth than the rest, but not by much. The pans are a bit thin. They don't look like extruded watercolors, so I wasn't expecting them to be filled with watercolors, but I was hoping for more. The height and width are probably a little more than a regular full pan. Still, I think it's good value for money. They are significantly cheaper than Finetec, the more popular and expensive brand of metallic watercolors. I bought this for about $9 for six colors, and Finetec usually goes for about six colors for $25. Personally I have not used the Finetec brand, but I am very happy with these Mozarts. Would definitely recommend, especially as a gift as it's kind of a specialty.
