DO NOT WET household items

DO NOT WET. When I opened them to set the tables on my wedding day they smelled a little chemical and seemed to have residue on them so I tried rinsing them off to see if that would help. Big mistake, I didn't use boiling hot water, only warm water. They were in my sink, I rinsed them. When I got to the third color I noticed the paint was peeling. I turned off the water and started drying them, another big mistake when the paint smears, so I tried dripping them but that didn't work either. The longer they were in the water, the worse it got. Now that brings me to the big question: if warm water does that, then what about warm or even hot food? It would be even worse if my customer complained about paint chips in the food. I had to use plain white panels for the final repair. This was not what my client wanted and I had to reimburse her a reasonable amount for this omission. I don't know if I just had a bad batch or if anyone had any of these issues. I've read a lot of reviews and haven't seen anything like this before. I'm just starting out in coordinating parties and I'm afraid it will hurt my future business. I hope giving her back the good part doesn't hurt business. Because this job hopefully only cost me money in the end.
