Edit: March 29th 2019 - just had to go back and add that this lens is compatible and the auto focus works with my new Canon EOS R body which I just received. fedex no more than 30 minutes ago! I received a Tamron lens for my Canon 5D II on April 17th, 2018 about a year ago and my original review is below. Received a new Canon EOS R today, although I have read many reviews that this lens, the Tamron 28-300, will NOT work with the Canon EOS R and Tamron has stated that they currently have no plans to release updated firmware . But since I had other lenses that I could still use on the EOS R, I bought a Canon EOS R. And just for fun, I attached this Tamron lens to the EOS R using the Canon EF-Basic Mount Adapter. EOS R. 2971C002 and to my pleasant surprise the lens and especially the autofocus works, albeit a bit slower than my Canon lenses! (see picture) Don't ask me why, but the setup works and I won't doubt it! LAUGH OUT LOUD! I haven't tested the image quality yet and I don't know if this setting works. So if it suddenly stops working I will update this review again. ----- First review starts below ---- - All is going well. I walk around with two cameras, one has a 16-35 ultra wide angle lens and the other has a 28-300 lens which gives me an effective range of 16-300mm! Covers most walking situations except indoor lighting, dynamic sports, etc. The lens is small and light, but it seems solid and the image quality is pretty good without testing with machines or seeing pixels in the corners that I don't really care if most Don are present. in addition to the discussion in the online photo forums! Yes, I own most of the Canon L's, but I prefer the range my current setup offers for most things my photography style calls for.
