You can use 4x4. but it's a LOT of work.

This thing changed the life of the whole family. We all go down the slackline several times a day and have also developed some technical skills. We don't have trees. We don't really have access to anything close by. So. We built a slackline arena using 4x4, cables, turnbuckles and concrete. Each mast consists of two 12 foot high four wheel drive wheels buried 3 feet in concrete and gravel. Each end has 3 anchors, also 4x4, 3ft deep with concrete, 5ft and 7ft from the posts (see photo). Each anchor is connected to the posts with guy wires and secured with lanyards. Above us we stretched another cable and hung a pair of triangular sails. We have to adjust the tension regularly, but we have successfully built a slackline gym using a 4x4. I've added some photos that might be helpful if you decide to try it yourself. The slackline pulls the sticks hard and a stretch at each end is not enough (we tried). This is the end result of a month of experimenting and building. If I do it again I'll use 8x8 or 10x10 racks instead of double 4x4s, otherwise this design works fine. We installed some solar safety lights on top of the poles to make night slacklining casual and relaxing. that looks pretty cool too. I will make a video with better details if there is enough interest.
