Yes, these shows are too narrow. But I found the shoe to fit perfectly (albeit half a size larger than what I normally wear) after I put the insole through a standard Dr. Schools. In fact, I have found that with Dr. Scholl get more freedom and better care. As far as the shoes fit. There is no loss. And yet the shoe fits much better than any other winter hiking shoe I've worn (or tried on in the store). I have normal size from Dr. Schools. None of the fancy versions that get fatter. I have found that I can even wear shoes without insoles comfortably. But I suspect it does more damage to the shoe and causes it to wear out faster on the inside.
