Review on πŸ“Ό Toshiba W603 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR: Reliable & Superior Video Quality by Mark Lodge

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Functional video recorder, nothing more

With the Toshiba W-603 you get what you pay for; an inexpensive video recorder that can play and record. It performs these functions well, but given its shortcomings, the consumer may well decide to spend a little more money and buy a better product. I bought this VCR three months ago and I find it usable at best. Cons: 1) The remote control is a joke. It is very small and easily lost. It's more complex than most remotes, cramming almost forty buttons into a three-inch-long area. Most notable, however, is the lack of a volume control. You need two remote controls, a TV remote control and a VCR remote control, or you need to buy a universal remote control to operate this VCR. 2) The VCR makes a howling noise during playback. It's not as pronounced as other reviewers have noted, but it's still noticeable. 3) The machine's fast rewind and rewind functions are not up to scratch. It's difficult to stop the video exactly where you want it, often resulting in the viewer having to rewind the video to see something that was missed . refers to my media configuration, not VCR). The time it takes to set the timer is ridiculously long. It would be easier to set the clock manually. 5) The VCR's LCD display is unnaturally bright. Unlike other VCRs, it does not have a night dimming function. This annoys me especially because the video recorder is directly in my field of vision at night. I have to turn off the car every night. I am satisfied with the playback capabilities of this VCR. When I bought it I was looking for a cheap machine that would play my videos. I was not disappointed. I would recommend it to others looking for a cheap second VCR. If you want a quality device, you'll have to look elsewhere. This is the lowest unit.
