We've never had a stand mixer before, so there's no point in comparing it to others. However, I can share my first user experience. We both (my wife and I) find it a little intimidating. He's not actually dangerous at all, but seems to be because of his excessive strength. Put something in and in no time at all it's "processed" in different ways depending on the blade you're using. Taking a medium-sized potato and making it rice-like in a second or two (at best) might seem convenient, and I suppose it is, but it's also a little disconcerting having that kind of cutting power in inches from your hand to see. Do not get me wrong. I don't see any possibility of injuring myself with this product, but it's still like standing next to a saw in a sawmill. You are not in real danger, but you know that there is so much dangerous power at hand. Another element that contributes to the intimidation factor, at least for me, is noise. This thing will flatten your ears during short bursts of work. On the plus side, she does a great job in everything we've asked of her. My wife loves homemade nut butters that are easy, quick, and perfect. Overall we're as happy as can be, but I wouldn't mind if we could tone it down a bit.
