It was soft when it came out of the box but after I washed it lost its softness and became like a normal even slightly rough sheet/pillow material. even rougher (piccocasa) and unusable because it was so uncomfortable on my skin that it was at least bearable. I hope it gets softer with more use and perfect for my body pillow. I've been using it for a month and it doesn't seem to be ripped or anything like what I've read in reviews of other body pillowcases on Amazon, the zippered area is white so you can see a thin white line down one end of the pillow (mine is a dark gray cover), it doesn't bother me, but it may bother some
