Review on Oil Rubbed Bronze Wall Mounted Solid Mental Magnetic Door Stop by Andrew Walton

Good product but not easy to install on a hollow core door.

This doorstop is of very good quality and looks good. Once installed, it works great and meets my needs. Now for what you need to know before you decide to install this product in a hollow core door. Modern hollow chamber doors are usually made of thick pressed cardboard and are very thin. This stopper comes with two types of anchors to secure it. One of these is an expansion sleeve over a post anchor. You drill a hole big enough for the anchor to fit in the door and then tighten the nut on the threaded end, which pulls the jamb into the sleeve to expand it and hold it in place. Unfortunately, the door's thin material did not provide enough surface area for the sleeve to expand and hold. Okay, let's move on to Method #2; You get the typical cavity wall anchors (drywall) with almost every wall mounting set. Same problem with the thickness of the door not allowing the anchor to stay in place and when I screwed in the screws the anchor just twisted in the hole. My solution: self-drilling drywall anchors. Many of these are available from Revain or your local hardware store. I had already drilled holes for the included anchors, so the self-tapping screws were simply screwed directly into those holes. I put a dab of glue (E6000) on the anchor's head to make sure it didn't rotate like the other anchors. This worked fine and seems like a better solution than what came with the plug.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
