Keeps everything at a distance and tight. I mainly used them as camera accessories. We drown them on 1/4 of the male threads that are deep. Works great with 1/4m diameter D-rings that do not have washers/spacers. Before they were so easy to unscrew, since then the rubber split keeps them in place.
