decent curtain, decent price, with limitations

UPDATE 13 months later: God I'm down. Long story short, it's still working great after a year. I don't use a small tab; Instead, I grab the lower rail. Up in the morning, down in the evening, no problem. EXCEPT. When installing, note that the center bracket can pinch the return springs. Set it off center to prevent this and you'll be fine. Hooray! -------- Original Review, 2015 11 30 -------- Prospective Buyers: DO NOT allow the mounting brackets to touch the spring assembly in the top rail; Install them off-center. In short, this is a good curtain on the second try. The center bracket is now off-center and works well. Details: My previous blinds lasted thirteen years before the cord broke. I have this model 43 inches wide with three mounts. I placed them where the other brackets were and drilled new holes since they are wider. I noticed that the spring block is in the middle leaving little room for the mount, but the mount is flimsy - and it fits - so I left it there. Placing mounts evenly spaced makes perfect sense, and we all would if there was no reason not to. When I first lowered the canopy, I remembered other reviews mentioning how stiff it was because mine required quite a bit of force to pull. When I tried to lift it it just sagged and there was nothing to lift it. - behaves exactly like the old one, no cable, wobbles everywhere. I looked through the instructions but didn't find anything I was missing. Assuming it must be something simple, I looked for the supplier's contact information - nothing. In a conversation with Revane they said I can return it which I consider a waste. However, this is my only option, which is why I did this. To Revane's credit they immediately agreed to send me a new one before I sent the old one back - at least I can close the window at night. To get the stepladder, I figured out what had happened: the bracket was compressing the springs inside the case and they couldn't rotate to raise the umbrella. When I pulled it down, the springs immediately retracted, pulling the cords quickly and unevenly, leaving the blinds twisted, tied, and ruined. The guide hopes to prevent this by warning the buyer to lift from the center, but doesn't mention how little space there is above the springs. The blinds don't even go down now and closing the window at night is not an option. I am sorry to have to return a once fully working product as if the instructions had been a bit clearer I could have easily avoided this. Even if I knew, I could remove the blinds without moving them (annoying but possible) and I could keep the blind already hanging on my wall. I didn't even open the second hardware package. I hope they can salvage it quickly at the factory, where no doubt they will think I pulled the curtain up on the side, not the middle, and ruined it out of carelessness, not ignorance. blind now that it works and hopefully others can avoid this problem when the instructions are updated. : Update instructions In order to avoid unnecessary returns and bad reviews, the middle shot should be on the side and not compress the spring body.
