I bought these to avoid damaging my SUV's paintwork with the tie down straps I use to secure the bow and stern of the kayak. Also, it was very difficult for me to load the kayak; I had to lift the hood and attach the front in the open hole, kneel down and look under the back of the car to find the tow hook. With them, I just shoved one under the hood, one under the tailgate, pulled quickly and hooked in with ratchets. Along with the straps that attached the kayak to the J-hooks, my kayak was very stable and nothing wobbled, wobbled or made that horrible strap noise in the wind. Also, no straps are touching my car so my paint is safe!
