Review on Schlage 994831 Padlock 2 5 Inch Shackle by Matt Morrison

Great locks for what they are and aren't

I know lock picking, average in terms of skills. I could probably pick most master locks blindfolded underwater using a pick in my teeth or just kicking around lol. It's possible to pick any standard type of lock, including this one, but most locks that can only be picked with the help of Uber experts (MT5, etc.) cost well over $100, and I only needed locks for internal keyboard storage. and cameras inside. A pair of the same keys from a good company like Schlage for $30 was a great deal, I pounced. It took me over thirty seconds and less than a minute to select them. Tolerances are pretty tight, making it a bit harder to pick than junk products like Masterlock, but it's still a regular straight pin lock. By comparison, I can pick almost any masterlock with my non-dominant hand, typically in less than five seconds. These locks are strong and the braces were actually too thick for my internal storage, but I saved them for a few other uses. Spend 2-4x the minimum on ONE lock but at the lower end of the price range for overall locks that offer basic protection and containment this is great excellent value. I'm not the kind of tool that expects to get the features of a $200 lock in a $15 lock, and these locks have been priced based on price and features. One more note, I bought these for indoor use not outdoor, they are nothing but metal. , no rubber or other coating or coating, no idea how that affects durability in the elements. These are really strong locks. I wish Schlage would make a thinner shackle version of these locks for my safe, but they don't.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Compatibility
