Review on πŸ”Œ TP-Link USB WiFi Adapter (TL-WN725N) - N150 Wireless Network Dongle for PC/Desktop - Windows 10/7/8/8.1/XP/Mac/Linux Compatible by Chase Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good adapter, drivers and software that needs to be finalized with a file.

Probably everyone has a modem to connect to the Internet. And for many, it supports the function of data transfer via Wi-Fi. Laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. in the vast majority have the ability to connect wirelessly "by default". But with stationary PCs, the picture is reversed. And meters of cable stretch from the modem to the computer. And he gets confused underfoot, creates a headache during repairs and does not fit into the interior. Lucky for someone who has a modem near the PC itself. And if not? Or several computers, and all in different rooms? Buying a wireless USB network adapter solves the problem. I purchased the TP-Link TL-725N model. By the way, in terms of technical parameters, it is no different from its counterparts, except for one thing: it is compact. Same size as a wireless mouse USB port, protrudes 6mm from the PC case. Equipment: - box; - adapter; - instructions for use (Russian is present, as well as Ukrainian, Kazakh, Azerbaijani (!), English and some other two with Arabic script); - warranty card; - CD with drivers and utility (important: compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7). Bringing the adapter into working condition occurs according to the following algorithm: 1. Connect the adapter to the PC. 2. Insert the CD into the drive. 3. The dialog box for installing drivers and utilities for working with Wi-Fi is launched. Important: the setup wizard will offer two options: - install driver and utility; - install only the driver. I recommend the first option, because the utility is a very convenient thing. 4. Completing the installation. Adapter at work. The utility has a dialog box: As you can see, it can be used to detect wireless networks, connect to them without dull digging in the "Network Connections" of the PC. The utility has two modes of operation: minimalized (i.e. collapsed) and, in fact, deployed. You can even close it altogether, because in the minimized mode we found one bug and one drawback: - bug: once every one or two minutes the utility puts the browser or any other program into the background state (as if clicking the mouse outside the browser on the desktop); - disadvantage: the program duplicates the signal level, which looks non-kosher in the tray (the second icon on the left on the screen): The disadvantages are not limited to this. If the adapter is turned off for a short time "hot", the subsequent inclusion may fail, because the drivers are sometimes capricious, and the PC recognizes the device as an "unknown device". In this case, sometimes running the utility helps, but even here there was one curious bug: often the utility sees the adapter, but the PC does not, and connecting to Wi-Fi is impossible, only restarting (!) The computer helps (well, or dancing with a tambourine in the device manager, which is slower in time;)). So the software of the device needs to be improved. In appearance, there are no complaints. The LED-indicator blinks in a soft blue color of such brightness that it does not strain your eyesight (I have an adapter connected to the keyboard, and even in complete darkness this blinking does not distract me), but also signals the operation of the device. In general, I give the adapter a strong "four". Our price in Belarus is 560 RUB.

Pros
  • Size, secure connection.
Cons
  • Software with minor bugs.
