The new steps look great outdoors. I ran it over the bristles of a boot scraper before breaking in, but the grooves in the tread were still clogged with grass clippings. More scratching didn't help. I think the foam soles softened and tended to shed mud when walking. Soon the bulges on the balls of the feet and heels became noticeably lower. I spent a few minutes with the belt sander on spots where the combs weren't worn so the grooves weren't as deep. Since then, running through a shoe scraper has cleaned the soles nicely. In three months I wore them for about 45 days and ran about 250 miles in them. They hold up well, including the tread, although the red fabric looked dirty from the start. I love how they feel underfoot.
