I have a couple of micrometers and Starrett test indicators. Starrett is clearly considered the best in the business, and with good reason. But these Fowler micrometers are as accurate and durable as the Starrett. The only minor gripe I have is that they don't have a tenth scale. But I don't think I've ever used this scale because I only estimate tenths of the main index. The average do-it-yourselfer doesn't need any detail anyway. Fowler has been around for a long time, making precision tools. They used to be much more expensive in price. I don't know how the price dropped so low but I can tell you it's a steal. With normal use and care, they will last a lifetime.
