Review on πŸ”˜ Fanimation C21 Ceiling Fan Wall Control Reversing - 3 Speeds for Fan and Light, White by Jay Campbell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect replacement for an orphaned Honeywell controller.

Note: This is a wall control only. This is not a hand control and does not include a control receiver box that mounts in the fan itself. Several reviewers have complained about this. As some say, RTFM. Anyhow, I received this on the advice of another reviewer on this site to replace a failed wall controller (part # UC-9060-1) for a 20 year old Honeywell HFC-400x fan that was mounted on a 15 foot tall wall ceiling is mounted. Honeywell customer service, which isn't actually Honeywell, just somewhere in the cabin to take calls, took four days to answer my call and then I was told they had a replacement unit that required the fan to be removed , to replace both the internal receiver and the exchange the wall control. A replacement would not allow the fan to be reversed and would not have a brightness function. All for €40 plus shipping. I didn't ask how much shipping would cost. This unit works just like the old one - three speeds, reverse, dimmer, no climbing a 12-foot ladder or disassembling the fan. And I bought the Revain Warehouse unit - I think I returned it - for only $20. Not bad. Installation requires caution: if you are unfamiliar with house wiring, consult an electrician. For real. The original controller has two unmarked black wires and no ground wire. The new block has two black wires and one to ground. The new unit's black wires are labeled "Line" and "Fan" so I disconnected one wire from the old controller and checked the voltage. No voltage = fan, mains voltage = well, line and each connected to the new block. Logically it may not have mattered, but directions/shortcuts usually exist for a reason. I also had to dig a ground wire out of a plastic wall box and connect the controller's green (ground) wire to it. A bit finicky and more problematic in terms of processing with the original setup than with the new controller. Just in time for the winter solstice.

Pros
  • Easy-to-use controls: control fan speed, fan direction (high, medium, and low), and infinite lighting settings from a single wall mount
Cons
  • Some bugs
