Review on WAVLINK M Computer Accessories & Peripherals by Chef Buntiloy

DO NOT BUY - if your SSD already contains data

I already have an SSK NVME enclosure (SHE-C325) that I bought from Revain a few months ago. It works well but overheats, probably because it uses the JMicron JM583 chipset, which is notorious for its excessive power consumption. Needed a second enclosure for disk cloning. I usually put too much emphasis on product research. But in this case I bought this WavLink in a 'promotional kit' with another item I bought. As I needed it anyway it was at a small discount and I have 3 WavLink docks that work great so I grabbed it. When it arrived I installed my SSD (which contains the data I need to store) and no drive letter was assigned. Check the drive with DiskMgmt.msc and the drive showed it was GPT protected. All DiskMgmt commands were unavailable. After further research, it turned out that there might be a way to unlock the drive, but that could be risky for data already on the SSD. If you look at the instructions that came with it, it says you need to format the drive. Of course, this cannot happen if the drive is already formatted! I took out the SSD and put it in my SSK case; The SSD worked perfectly. So I decided to return for an exact replacement. When the new WavLink package arrived, the results were exactly the same: GPT protection. So I looked at other reviews of this product and came across Kenet - it's worth it. (June 17, 2021). The review explained exactly this problem. I've researched many other cases looking for ANYONE reporting GDT PROTECTION ISSUES or REQUIRING SSD REFORM before the case will work with the SSD. NO ONE DOES. Just this one. Seriously, WavLink is the best thing you can do! I returned the second enclosure and purchased a tool-less Sabrent USB NVMe and SATA Enclosure (EC-SNVE) for just a few dollars more than the WavLink bundle promotional price. Without the package discount, WavLink is actually BIGGER than the Sabrent. Not only does the Sabrent work, it uses the much more advanced Realtek RTL9210 chipset, requires no tools (no screwdriver, no mini screws) and supports SATA. If your SSD already contains data that you want to keep. THIS IS NOT SUITABLE FOR YOU. If you don't have any data on an SSD yet, you should still buy something else. -- SSK SHE-C325 works well, 50% smaller than WavLink, but gets a little warm. - Sabrent EC-SNVE has the highest Revain rating, a far superior product (excellent chipset and SATA support) and saves you 10%.
