These are simple chairs. They come in pairs in a (large) box with the backs torn off and tabs rising from the seat with threaded holes to attach the back to the base. Two screws and washers on each side attach the backrests, four total, and these four screws hold the backrest securely to the base. Each chair box comes with a hardware package. In fact, we received two sets of these chairs, each with an extra pack of screws and washers. In total we had enough gear to assemble six chairs and each bag also had a hex wrench to attach the backrest to the base: six hex wrenches, twenty-four nuts and washers. The chairs are comfortable. Everyone thinks so. Everyone finds them short too. Our regular dining chairs are 17 inches high at the center of the front seat. They are 14 inches tall front and center. The seats are curved, rising 16 inches on the sides but also falling backwards. In short, while these are comfortable seats, they are not as high as they could be, making dining at a normal-height table a bit uncomfortable, especially for short people. The plastic is heavy and thick. I suspect it will show dents and scuffs because it's matte and not particularly smooth. Two chairs stack well, but three don't stack well, and four don't stack at all - the back legs will hit the seats of the bottom chairs if you add more than two to the stack. This is a definite minus. And the reason it's a minus is that I wouldn't put these chairs at the dining table all the time. They are not of poor quality, but they are not a year-round family restaurant, comfortable or welcoming. So it would be nice if they folded neatly and could be pulled out of the closet if extra chairs are needed. The thickness of the padding and upholstery of the chairs is about 0.75 inches. It appears to be a piece of fabric-covered foam glued to the chair's plastic base and backrest. The cushion makes the chair more comfortable than bare plastic (the other pair we got was bare plastic), but it still puts some pressure on your shoulder blades when you recline since the cushion doesn't cover the top of the backrest . Ultimately, these aren't the most comfortable or inviting chairs, but they can offer the looks and comfort you want to live with at a price you can afford. These aren't bad chairs: they're durable and comfortable. But as dining chairs, I don't think that's what most people want. They would be better suited as chairs for waiting rooms.
