These bad boys are a perfect match for me. I built a 20 foot wide mahogany double gate for the entrance to my backyard home and although I built it quite "thick", length, wind and reality really can't find "huge", the pipe studs meant that he was a little weak in the middle. I've really struggled to find good hardware rated for a pair of 500+ pound swing gates. To protect the center from wind etc I figured just a 2x4 crossbar on the inside would be the way to go. - I still don't need (or want) the gate to actually open from the outside. It worked like a champ. I secured everything with coach bolts and chose a cheap "short" 2x4 from the Orange Box Store so it's a little easier to get in and out of, but just enough to "stick" and not pop out when someone tries it from the outside. Worked perfectly.
