I was too lazy. I knew I had one of these somewhere, but I didn't want to wade through the mountain of cords strewn all over the house and garage to find it - so it was easier to buy it and have it in two days to get. "However" it wouldn't connect to my camcorder and I couldn't figure out why. As I gritted my teeth and disassembled my house, I saw that the wire I had (which works fine) "looks" identical, but there is a plastic "comb" (less than 1mm) , which does not give a 3.5mm punch through the connector. enough to connect. Look closely at the photo and you will see what I mean.
