Longer would offer better protection
My DH is always tearing up his arms when trimming the shrubs & trees. He tried these and for the first time, no scratches, torn skin or bleeding. He felt they should have been longer. They ended just above his elbow, but he had to pull them down below his elbow for them to be comfortable when bending his elbow. This then didn't protect his upper arm area. We didn't test them out by cutting with a knife, but they did protect his arms while working outside. The price is reasonable. I do wish they had several sizes to accommodate longer and/or larger upper arms.
